Where Was Broadchurch Series 2 Filmed?

David Tenant and Olivia Colman return to your television screens this January, reprising their roles as Detective Inspector Alec Hardy and DS Ellie Miller in one of ITV’s most popular crime dramas. But where was series 2 of Broadchurch filmed?

Having primarily shot in Dorset, Clevedon and West Somerset, our Production Services Team were on hand to offer on-going support and advice, help secure vital filming permissions and ensure the production experienced a smooth shoot.

What Filming Locations Were Used In Broadchurch Series 2?

Creative England’s Production Services Team got involved with Broadchurch series 2 in late 2013 while the show was in very early pre-production. The production had indicated that they intended to return once again to West Dorset and North Somerset where the original series was filmed but also had plans to branch out into the Devon area. As with series one, the town of Clevedon became the fictional town of Broadchurch, with St Andrews Church and Cemetery transforming into Broadchurch Parish Church of St. Bede and Clevedon Pill / Marshall’s Field and Bank becoming the crucial field location behind the home of the show’s main character.

The production also returned to the iconic West Bay and Bridport and filmed some sequences in the University of Exeter in Devon. Number 22 on Hill Road, formerly a Lloyds Bank, was transformed into the Traders Hotel which houses David Tenant’s character throughout the second series of the show. According to some sources, the fictional refurbishment of the hotel was so convincing, members of the public were calling to book a table in its non-existent restaurant.

Other notable filming locations for Broadchurch series 2 in Clevedon include Hill Road which became the show’s bustling high street area, Walton Park Hotel and Poets Walk and Wain’s Hill which can be seen in both series. The production also shot some sequences in the Dorset area, including Charmouth, Weymouth and Morcombelake. Creative England’s Crew and Facilities team also assisted the production by recruiting a Unit Manager and a security company for the shoot.

Broadchurch Series 2 airs on Monday January 5th.
