Government is providing additional funding for small businesses which pay little or no business rates because of ongoing small business rate relief, rural rate relief and tapered relief. This will be a one-off grant of £10,000 to meet ongoing business costs during the coronavirus crisis. 

Who can use the scheme?

You are eligible if your small business is based in England and already receives small business rate relief or rural rate relief. You must occupy property. Freelancers could access the scheme if you are a sole trader with premises. Charities cannot access this.

Your local authority will be in touch if you are eligible.

How can I access the scheme?

Scotland

Small businesses who get small business bonus scheme relief or rural relief can apply for a one-off grant of £10,000. You do not have to repay this grant. You can only apply for one grant, even if you own multiple properties.

Who can use the scheme?

You are eligible if your business is based in Scotland and access the small business bonus scheme relief or rural relief.

When can I access the scheme?

Now. Councils will aim to make a payment within 10 working days of receiving your grant application form.

Wales

A £10,000 grant to all businesses eligible for small business rates relief in Wales with a rateable value of £12,000 or less. The same ratepayer may only receive the grant for a maximum of two properties in each local authority area.

Who can use the scheme?

You are eligible if your business is based in Wales and if it is eligible for small business relates relief.

When can I access the scheme?

Local authorities are administering these grants in Wales. Individual local authorities are in the process of developing their information and systems.
